What is a Metal Boat Cover?

A metal boat cover is another name for a boat carport or shelter for boats, which is a steel structure designed to store and protect large vessels from the elements. Essentially an boat cover is a carport specifically designed for recreational boats of many sizes.

What Can A Metal Boat Shelter Be Used For?

A boat shelter serves as a highly versatile storage solution for various types of boats. While its primary purpose is to house boats kept on trailers, such as pontoon boats and bass boats, it accommodates a wide range of vessels and additional items. Beyond storing boats, many individuals utilize boat shelters for storing fishing gear, scuba equipment, life jackets, coolers, and more. The possibilities are endless under the protective metal roof of a boat shelter.

Metal Boat Shelter Sizes

When it comes to classifying boat covers, nuances arise. Specifically we categorize carports as boat shelters or boat carports if they are designated for the storage of one or more boats. Our range of sizes caters to various needs, from compact shelters for jon boats to expansive options for the largest towable vessels. Our boat shelters span from 10 feet wide to over 60 feet wide and when it comes to the length of our boat shelters, they typically start at 20 feet long and can be extended as needed, provided there is a level surface. Heights vary, with options ranging from as low as 6 feet to as tall as 20 feet in select cases. Essentially, we can cover any boat that can be towed on a trailer."

Carports For Boats Roof Types

Carports for boats are not much different than your classic carport. The main difference is carport is used to shelter a boat instead of a car or truck.  Whether you plan to store a pontoon boat, a fishing boat or even a jon boat, it doesn't affect the various types of roofs we offer. We offer the following roof types:

  • Regular Roof - Rounded roof with horizontal panels

  • Boxed Eave or A-Frame Roof - Boxed roof with horizontal panels

  • Vertical Roof - Vertical panels with additional hat channels

Each roof type has its own distinct look and strength associated with it, with regular roofs providing the minimal strength and vertical roofs being the strongest by adding the additional material via the hat channels on the underside of the roof.

Metal Boat Shelter Customizations

Our carports built for boats can be customized to fit your needs. The size of the structure can be customized from the length, width, and height of the building. The structure can also be customized to have additional siding to make it enclosed on the sides. The boat shelter can also be reinforced by having having double legs and double baserails or can be upgraded to 12 gauge steel. Another option is to have the frame built at 4 feet on center vs the traditional 5 feet on center. Some other options include adding a lean to, adding custom frameouts, adding colored screws, and adding gables.

Boat Carport Prices

The prices for metal boat covers start at $1500.00 and go up depending on size, siding and gable options, frameouts and more. Boat carport covers can be similar in price as a classic carport or can be as pricy as some metal buildings depending on the number of boats you are intending on storing.  In some cases you may want to opt in for double baserails and double legs to insure the structure will protect your boat to some of the worst conditions, which may cost more upfront but can save you more in the long run. Alternatively you may consider putting your boat in a garage to have it completely sealed from the elements which is more costly than a boat cover however it offers better protection.

Boat Carport Kits

If you are a do it yourself kind of person you may consider purchasing our boat carport kit. We offer steel carports for boats as a kit that will be delivered to your property. You would be responsible for erecting and installing this structure yourself. Yes, it's a bit cheaper to buy the kit and install yourself; however, self installation doesn't come with the warranty. We suggest saving yourself the hassle and letting the professionals install your carport.
